Glossolalia

Question: Is speaking in tongues really a gift from the Holy Spirit? If so, why is this a gift, what does this do? What exactly are they saying?

God’s answer:

Gabble

Glossolalia

It does not make sense to Me either.

Meaning: "Glossolalia or speaking in tongues is the fluid vocalizing of speech-like syllables that lack any readily comprehended meaning."19. Glossolalia is not the same as the “gift of tongues” the apostles received during Pentecost.

Gabble means to “talk rapidly and unintelligibly; utter meaningless sounds”20: God’s message means:

  • It is not a gift of the Holy Spirit

  • God also does not understand what they are saying. According to God: “They are simply vocalizing. It’s all mumbo-jumbo.”

  • He shares my confusion as to why this is considered to be a spiritual gift.

Question: God, why do people do this?

God’s answer:

“Praise the Lord!!”
They get caught up in the hype

Question: Do these people really believe when they do this that it is genuinely from you?

God’s answer:

They have faith in it.

Question: How did this begin?

God’s answer:

Pagan Christians

God lead me to the writing of Paul regarding the Church of Corinth:

“ St. Paul, in 1 Corinthians, describes tongues as glossolalia. The congregation is generally unable to understand what is being said. The person speaking in tongues is described as communicating with God. A person with the special gift of interpretation is needed to translate the words. Paul describes speaking in tongues as the least important of the possible gifts of the Holy Spirit, and implies that they are a routine occurrence in at least the church at Corinth.
